I describe myself as an eternal optimist. This is mainly because I always try to be optimistic. It’s also to remind myself to be optimistic, even when it’s hard to be.

Having led B2B and B2C content (websites, blogs, printed articles, brochures, research reports etc.) I consider myself quite a versatile writer.

I think of this site as a place to share some of my experiences and some of the work I have been part of. (I know the strictly correct way to write that is to say “…of which I have been a part…” but I’d like to take a more relaxed approach on this site). Expect plenty of travel content. I have been fortunate enough to visit and/or write about some incredible destinations and I would like to share that with you without the restrictions of style guides and organisational policies and priorities.

If you like what you read here, I hope you’ll come back for more. Feel free to give me a shout using the contact page if you would like to work together, share your feedback, or share any of your own stories. You can also mail me at thabs@theternaloptimist.com.

I hope you enjoy this journey with me.

  • Exploring the Maasai Mara

    Kenya

While working for the Kenya Tourism Board, I visited the Maasai Mara for a media trip that included a few other destinations in this magical country. This was not my first visit to the Mara nor was it my last.

  • Enjoying Swiss Chocolate

    Switzerland

While working remotely (pre-COVID-19 pandemic) in Europe, I decided to take a few weeks off to explore some of the continent. A new travel friend took this photo for me in Lucerne after I had had my fill of Swiss chocolate at a nearby chocolatier.

  • Discovering the South China Sea

    Indonesia

While our agency handled Club Med Southern Africa’s PR and digital, my business partners and I went on a fabulous trip to Bintan Island. A friend captured this underwater pic on a day trip another friend of ours organised.
